Moy Viaduct

Constructed in 1887 Moy Viaduct is the last remaining timber bridge on a main line railway. For a number of years the structure has been suffering from severe fungal decay. In 2003 it was strengthened and repaired by the installation of a new structure within the framework. The timbers were treated to prevent further decay. The project received a number of awards.

Soay Sheep, Culloden Moor

The sheep are employed to bring the land back to what the vegetation was like at the time of the battle (so the NTS say). At least there's something alive still....

There's a hole in my railway, dear (Clachna) Harry

There appears to be nothing to stop a train falling off the end of the line at Clachnaharry when the bridge over the canal is open for shipping except for a red signal several hundred yards back on the Inverness side (and presumably a similar one from the Dingwall direction). The box on the side of the swing bridge contains the operating equipment and gearing above the bridge pivot point but it is controlled from the signal box, the roof of which can be seen peeping over the bridge parapet. Note the slot for the locking bolt between the rails at the edge of the gap.
