White Bridge

White Bridge, originally uploaded by Duncan Brown (Cradlehall).

This is a Wade bridge which carried the old military road from Fort George to Cawdor. This hump-backed bridge crosses the river Nairn near Clephanton and is only wide enough for one vehicle. Because of its blind summit, access across the bridge is controlled by traffic lights.

This bridge is around 250 years. It was built shortly after the Battle Of Culloden 1746 as part of a military road betweeen Cawdor and Fort George.
